Bessamer factory model at Musée des arts et métiers
Sir Henry Bessamer bought a patent from an American William Kelly who invented a system how to air blow the carbon out of pig iron, known as the pneumatic process of steelmaking. Bessamer converter is a kind of container lined with refractory ceramics. Cast iron from the blast furnace is decarburized under the influence of a strong air current. The container is then reversed to fill molds.
